]]> Increased demand on Services during Covid-19 which we endeavour to continue and provide https://northoffalydevelopment.com/2020/04/23/increased-demand-on-services-during-covid-19-which-we-endeavour-to-continue-and-provide/ Thu, 23 Apr 2020 12:20:38 +0000 https://northoffalydevelopment.nalcro4.com/?p=1321 Read more]]> Over the last 6 weeks, since the Covid-19 restrictions, there has been a significant increased demand on the services provided by North Offaly CDN.  We are doing everything we can to cater for everyone and to adapt to these new circumstances we are all faced with.  In particular our Meals on Wheels and Home Visiting Service have been greatly affected.

We have adapted the way we deliver our Meals on Wheels to ensure we are fully compliant with all regulations and protecting both the client and those delivering the meals.  The meals are now delivered in recyclable disposable containers for increased safety.  Face masks, disposable gloves, hand sanitiser and plastic bags (for safe disposable of used gloves and tissues) are issued to all those delivering meals.  To further protect the clients, we have changed the delivery method whereby we now leave your hot 2 course meals outside your door and ring the doorbell to ensure there is no contact.  The number of clients receiving our Meals on Wheels Service has increased and we endeavour to continue providing this service and meet the growing demand.  

As our Home Visiting Service has changed (temporarily during Covid-19) clients are getting familiar with the new Friendly Call Service. They really appreciate this service been  provided on a Daily/Weekly basis as it is a challenging and lonely time while cocooning, they know there is a friendly call/voice on the other end of the phone ready to listen to them.  Some of our clients also use this service to seek extra help in the delivery of medicines, fuels and groceries while cocooning which we are happy to assist with.

In Order to maintain these services we provide, NOCDN needs to raise €25,000 per annum through fundraising. The Covid-19 epidemic has impacted significantly on the cost of providing our services, as we had to change the way many services are delivered, in the short term. In addition, at least two of thelocal fundraising events that take place annually have to be cancelled this year, in order to ensure the safety of volunteers, staff and others.

It is in this regard we have set up a gofundme page:

We need your help and support with.  A lot of the funds raised will be used to subsidise food costs, so that we can deliver a two-course, hot dinner to everybody who needs it, five or six days per week, at a reasonable and affordable cost to the client.  The remainder of the funds raised will be used to support other elements of the service, such as regular calls by phone or in person (daily if necessary to ensure people are ok) and the continuation of the Home and Garden Service to carry out essential repairs, even though it cannot pay for itself, at the current reduced rate of activity.

All the funds raised will be used to make sure older people, living throughout the North Offaly area, will have a full range of supports and services available to them, including shopping for groceries, collecting of prescriptions and other essential items, during this difficult and challenging time for them.  If we can meet our fundraising target, it will mean that we can concentrate on delivering the widest range of high quality services, while our clients can rest assured that the services will be available to them, throughout this crisis period and beyond.

The way in which we operate many of our services has had to change in order to ensure we are fully compliant with all the advice to best ensure everyone’s safety. Our office phone number (057-9362755) mobile number (085-2019765) are still active and available to receive calls.

Our Meals on Wheels Service is also still available and as always open to new clients who meet the existing criteria. We have adapted the service to meet guidelines around covid-19 & are making arrangements in advance for how the meals can be delivered without the need for social contact. All our drivers are following strict protocol wearing disposable gloves and changing them between each delivery. Hand sanitiser is used between each meal delivery and hands washed with soap and water at every opportunity throughout the day.

North Offaly CDN is offering a FREE delivery service for groceries, fuel or prescriptions to any older or vulnerable members of our community who may be self-isolating or prefer to remain in their home during these difficult times. Friendly Call Service – while the Home Visiting Service had to adapt the way the service is provided, for the duration of Covid-19, our visitors continue to be in very regular contact with the client for social chat, to provide reassurance and to check if there is anything causing them concern. This service has been opened up to anyone who is cocooning, self-isolating or missing social interaction during this crisis.
